Fully Funded Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships Switzerland

Fully Funded Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships Switzerland are open to international students who wish to pursue a master’s degree in art or a doctoral or postdoctoral degree in research at a Swiss university. The scholarships cover living costs and are awarded for a period of 12 months, which can be extended to 21 months for the Art Scholarship and up to 36 months for the Research Scholarship.

Eligibility:

  • Art Scholarship:
    • Born after December 31, 1988
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent by July 31, 2024
    • Never graduated from a master’s degree program
  • Research Scholarship:
    • PhD degree (for postdoctoral applicants) or master’s degree (for PhD applicants) obtained between December 31, 2020 and July 31, 2024 (ETH Zurich: June 30, 2024)
    • Research proposal with timeline and recommendation letter from an academic host professor
    • Short CV
    • Born after December 31, 1988 (for PhD and research fellowship applicants)

Application Process:

  1. Visit the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships website and read the terms and conditions.
  2. Make sure you are eligible to apply.
  3. Click on the link under “How to Apply” and select your continent of origin.
  4. Follow the instructions on the webpage. The application instructions may differ depending on your country of origin.
  5. Complete your application before the deadline in your country of origin.

Selection Process:

  1. Applicants will be shortlisted by the Swiss diplomatic representation or relevant national authorities.
  2. The Federal Commission for Scholarships (FCS) will then make the final selection based on the applicant’s profile, the quality of their research proposal or art portfolio, and the potential for future research cooperation and synergy.
  3. The selection process will be completed by the end of May 2024.
  4. Scholarship benefits will be awarded around the start of the study program in September 2024.

The application deadline varies between September and December 2023 depending on the applicant’s country of origin.
